December 20, 2024 (Hartford CT) | The Theta Alpha Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has been named of the recipients of the 2024 Hartford Greater Together Community Fund Grants.
During the October 2024 meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Hartford Greater Together Community Fund, the committee voted to support Theta Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter in the amount of $3,500 for their 9th Annual "It Takes a Village" Community Baby Shower. The baby shower falls under the chapter's Project Cradle Care initiative, which is a national essential program of the sorority, and aims to assist young mothers in marginalized communities by providing information towards healthy parenthood and childcare.
During the shower, the chapter provides each participating family with a "Welcome Home" basket that includes baby necessities (bottles, bibs, pacifiers, etc.), diapers, wipes, and other items that ease the transition of welcoming a newborn into their homes. The event also provides medical education on pre and postnatal care, as well as introduces the attendees to community partners like the Family Enrichment Center of Connecticut, WIC (Women Infants and Children) Nutritional Program, and MIOP (Maternal Infant Outreach Program) that can provide no-cost assistance and other resources during this critical and exciting time.
The grant is made available by the Hartford Foundation of Public Giving, which serves all 29 towns in the Greater Hartford Region. The foundation is a public, grantmaking organization that brings together dedicated individuals, businesses and nonprofits to understand local challenges, share information and put resources behind solutions that can improve the quality of life for those both in the Hartford region and across the state of Connecticut.
This is the third year that Theta Alpha Sigma has been a recipient of the grant.
